A Broadwood semi concert grand from 1897 in a dark wood case
This piano was owned by a top independent school and has been well maintained and regularly used. The school replaced all their instruments in order to become an official 'All Steinway School' hence we acquired this piano
This is one of the rare higher end Broadwood semi concert models, and offers a significantly better level of performance than their lower end home models. It also features a conventional modern damper mechanism, the earlier models used an underdamper mechanism which compromised the touch feel and damping performance. 1897 was one of the best periods of Broadwood piano production, the design of the instruments were fully up to date in terms of both action and string scale, and the quality was the best they ever produced. Shortly afterwards the company shifted their focus to the flawed barless concert grand and compromised the quality of their instruments and the financial success of the company as a result
Casework has some wear and patina but attractive and well cared for overall. Particularly attractive legs and marquetry music stand
Great tone through all registers and very good tuning stability
88 keys
